The struggle for freedom and dignity is not limited to the courtroom and other halls of power. Most of it takes place in neighborhoods, classrooms, community centers, streets, and public forums. Throughout my legal career I have engaged in popular education and civic engagement. Our communities and movements are stronger when we understand our grassroots histories, the legal system, and how the two interrelate.
